The Engineering Mix

Wrote one more of those philosphical, introspective harangous blogs on life yesterday and as the good luck of my readers would have it, my explorer had to be closed due to a fatal error. I really wrote a lot of my feelings and emotions in it fresh after witnessing someone's life end. But one day in college, my gloomy feelings made way for vibrant emotions and here I am in front of a PC trying to do some silly stuff. Just trying to get hold of some info on Cloudscape.
Actually, having done a paper on The Marketing Mix recently, I realised even our courses are a mix of Ps. While the Marketing Mix has 4 Ps (namely Product, Price, Place and Promotion) there are 3 Ps vis-a-vis the courses, something I call the Engineering Mix. They are Projects, Presentations and Papers.
Every subject boasts of a submission or a test in the coming couple of weeks. The professors have been pestering us hitherto in this sem asking us to submit docs, assignments et al. While there were loads of docs in SEN, there were Assignments and Prolog Programming in MLA. And the topping on this cake was prepared by the Grand Old Man of DA-IICT S.L. Maskara. His lab is something I love to loathe. Three hours of sheer trauma. I pity poor Pabari for carrying on the hardware experiments single-handedly with me offering to be the mute witness. Not that I would have done any experiments had it been my good old war horse Pavan, but at least I would not have been sorry for him because he is used to it for the past couple of years.
As if these projects were not enough, professors ask us for presentations. SEN tute is something half the group bunks under the fear of being the scapegoat to present the group's life cycle model or some plan or some crap. Added to the paper on Marketing Mix, it also has to be presented in the class on a whole new avtar very soon.
Why are n't the profs satiated with just one submission or one test? Why a presentation after a write-up or why three tests for a three credit course in a three month semester?
As if all these projects and presentations were not enough, professors also take exams at every drop of a hat. They play cheap crowd pulling measures like Pop Quizzes and attendance to cajole the students into their class. This isn't fair! I paid the fee after all, so I have the right to choose whom I want to listen to and when :P.
When this vicious chain of projects and presentations enervates a pitiable would-be engineer in due course of the semester, at the end of it appears the behemoth call Exams. A week of pain, agony, tea, cigarettes and night outs to push you out of the semester and you are happy that you have achieved something. Bloody heck!
Why Engineering has to be this way? Is there no hope for a change?
