The Spice thats lost!

Not even 24hours since it has been blocked from the college server, I am missing orkut. Orkut has been a great friends finder. i dont exactly remember when and how I joined orkut. It was summer 2004 and my friends those who stayed back in the college for summer semester sent me invites. I don't even remember whose invite I accepted to join it, all I remember is I love orkut.

I got to know many people through orkut. I made many friends and consolidated many more friendships in the college through orkut. If it had such a great effect on bridging gaps between people who see each other everyday, think of what it had done to my LDRs. I revived so many contacts through orkut and made many more new friends, all thanks to this Google founded site. Orkut and blogger have been two great tools in getting people closer in the campus.

Probably the college was amused by the alarming increase in the number of hits orkut got, they blocked it entirely from the server. I feel as if I have lost a great friend. Life is back to those spice-less days when I only interacted to a select few and had no idea of any living soul that breathed outside these 50 acres.

I think the college instead of saving resources by blocking orkut has curbed our social lives. Afetr all, those who did while their time away on orkut will continue to do so, albeit the domain will be different this time around. And what about the good things orkut had given us? Great friendships, social learning and great fun. All in a single site that ate no much bandwidth.

A revolution is probably thats needed to bring orkut back into our lives and I already mailed a few persons to show them my point of view. If things don't work out in the next couple of days, all I can say is life will definitely lose its spice that we have cherished for the past one year. As a friend of mine put on her blog a 3-month long dream, this would remain as a one year long dream in the lives of every DA-IICTian who wanted to live a healthy social life.
